Good
evening,
I am
writing to notify you of a visit we had from a NZ falcon this morning-
perched inside our classroom cloakbay! A fellow Teacher and I managed to net it
in a large sports netting bag, before any damage could be done, and I released
it on our school field where it happily flew off southwards.
The
students and teachers remain incredibly bemused and in awe.
Unfortunately
we have no photographs but we have positively identified it from
literature. The students were delighted to have an exciting topic to write
about- which we can add to our class blog!kind regards

Good morning Helen
I must say, not the usual experience when people see wild
falcons! We get sightings of falcons regularly from the Taupo area, even in the
city centre and on the lakefront, but never have we had one seen in a cloakbay
before. Good on you and your colleagues for being able to catch the bird
quickly and release it to where it should be. It could have damaged it feathers
if it was in an enclosed area, making flight and hunting much harder.
We would love to send you a few copies of our latest
journal. Full of stories and pictures of birds here at Wingspan but also
sightings from the wild. I will make it out to you, but feel free to share with
colleagues and it may even help with your blog!
Hope you and the kids enjoy the latest addition to the
playground! Let us know if you see the falcon hanging around
Regards
Dave

area.
We
will certainly let you know if there are any more sightings.
