Brooke's report of an Enviro Schools creative workshop

What a busy day we had on Wednesday 6 August. It was a day to get ideas for creating things for parades...the Hilltop green- thumbs will use the ideas for our school gardens.
We got split into groups with kids from other schools. (Me and my friend Cathrine were worried about being put into different groups but thanks to Mrs Gibson we weren't!)
My group went to make objects out of bamboo and willow- we wove flax through plastic mesh and did some paper mache on a giant long fin eel head.
The next project we went to was drumming on buckets , using broken chair legs. Then using a piece of paper and pen we spelt out BEAUTIFUL ENVIRONMENT. These letters were traced onto transparent fabric with permanent markers, which the group before had drawn designs on. this was then painted in the afternoon to make a banner.
After lunch we listened to a rather boring talk about the structure of a large bird before we finally started on making the tail. Mrs Gibson saw some potential in it- although it apparently looked like a yacht! We left with ideas for pumice sculptures, material banners and a variety of left over materials.
Yay! I didn't have to do cross country training today!
