Today we welcomed two visitors to our our Enviro session- Amanda who is our Enviro schools facilitator, and Natalie Haines.
Natalie spoke to us about her role with Mighty River Power. Here are some things we learned; how important it is to monitor the levels of Lake Taupo to minimise erosion. There are gates under the bridge that control the amount of water going into the Waikato River. We learned where the power stations are on the river and that they gradually get lower as the river gets closer to meeting the sea at Port Waikato. It was interesting to find out how the geothermal stations are able to re-use resources they take from the ground by reinjecting- much better than using up coal from the ground for electricity. Thank you Natalie for giving us your time and sharing your amazing knowledge!
We are looking forward to meeting up with Amanda again next Tuesday when 15 members of our group, and several helpful parents, are off to an Enviro workshop day at Wairakei.
